In 2017, Resalta carried out a project for the renovation of the compressor station for Fragmat, replacing outdated and inefficient air compressors with two new ones. The compressors installed have a rated output of 160 kW and 90 kW and have reduced electricity consumption for the production of compressed air by 9%. Due to Fragmat’s focus on energy efficiency and its long-term strategy, the installed compressors came with factory-installed heat exchangers for the exploitation of their waste heat. The system allowed for the implementation of a waste heat recovery system, which will now be realized.
By the end of the year, Resalta will build a system for distributing recovered heat to Fragmat. The heat will be directed to the dryers, one production hall and an administrative building. With this system, almost 500 MWh of natural gas and electricity will be saved annually and carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced by 110 t each year. The system will include an advanced control and monitoring system that will enable autonomous operation and will constantly monitor the heat flows in the company. In addition, the system is designed in such a way that with minimal extensions it will allow the connection of additional sources of waste heat and heat consumers if necessary. This could make it possible to improve energy efficiency and save an additional 250 MWh/year of natural gas.
