Situation before the contract and client requirements
Livar specializes in mechanical processing and the production of ductile cast iron. The company has different production sites in Slovenia. Following the realization of Resalta’s energy efficiency project in Livar’s Ivančna Gorica facilities, an energy audit showed that the Črnomelj site had an even bigger potential for savings.
The client’s compressed air was produced by three compressors, of which two dated back to the 1980s. The system was energy-intensive, and because the compressed air is crucial to Livar’s core business, it was necessary to do a complete overhaul of the compressed air production.
Resalta solution
Resalta’s solution was the installation of a new screw air compressor with one compressor with nominal electric power of 132 kW (this one frequency-controlled) and two with 90kW. The newest of the existing compressors will be kept as a back-up compressor.
The new compressors will be connected to an advanced monitoring system. Due to obsolescence and rust, the pressure vessel in front of the compressor station will also be replaced. In addition to the renovation of the compressor station, a system for the recovery of waste heat from the compressor station will be implemented.
The client wanted to use the recovered heat for drying dyed products, for which they currently use fuel oil. In order to allow drying to be carried out with heat from the compressor station, it will be necessary to adapt the entire production line, connect the two buildings to the pipeline and ensure proper regulation.
